A few decades ago, there was a series called Small Wonder that showcased a human-like robot who can perform household chores. Back then, little did we imagine that many of the ideas shown in that series could come to life.

Have you ever dreamt of a time when your groceries list was ready and ordered even before you ran out of things? That day is already here. If you open your fridge and notice you are out of orange juice, you can ask Alexa, your Amazon assistant to order the orange juice and it will get delivered to your home in a day’s time. How cool is that?

This is just one possibility of how smart devices can make your life easy. Let’s consider another example. As you start from work, you can ask Alexa to turn on the air conditioning at home so that by the time you reach, the temperature will be pleasant. Instead of running the AC the whole day, Alexa will turn it on just half an hour before you reach home. Imagine the cost savings in electricity!

A motion sensor getting tripped can activate a home camera and send the video to you and your security company so that the interruption can be investigated even if you are miles away. Your smart device may already have a preprogrammed function to call the police if it detects unexpected and unwelcome behaviour within the house.

The new devices coming into the market have a ‘smart’ component powered by the Internet of Things and it can fit into your existing Smart Home setup.

A Smart Home is way ahead of just slapping a sensor on everything. When a change is detected, these devices have the intelligence to interpret them and act on them. The beauty of this system is that you don’t need a massive array of computers to use the Artificial intelligence component. Devices like Amazon’s Alexa or Echo or Google Home run their AI computations on the cloud. So, you don’t have to worry about the infrastructure or costs. Just buy the device, set them to work with other devices and you are done.

Smart TVs smart refrigerators, smart lights and other devices can be connected to an AI personal assistant like Echo to enable voice control. You can even use Alexa app to make calls and send messages. Thanks to all this automation, you can enjoy more quality time pursuing things that you love.
